My Story

Why I wrote Resurrection

People often ask me why I wrote Resurrection.

The truth is… I didn’t write it because I wanted to tell a story.

I wrote it because I survived one.

As a teenager, I experienced extreme bullying, loneliness, and often felt invisible. The weight of those experiences eventually became poor self-worth, depression, and suicidal thoughts.

At a very young age, I was drowning in the thought that the world might be better off without me.

From the mouths and minds of those who were supposed to love me most, I suffered narcissistic abuse and fell into a pattern of one bad relationship after another where I constantly sacrificed myself to please others.

I know what it feels like to slowly lose yourself. To be told your feelings aren’t real. To question your own memories. To apologize for things that were never your fault. To spend so long trying to earn love that you forget what it feels like to simply deserve it. The emotional abuse I’ve experienced left scars no one can see, and those wounds became part of the depression, anxiety, and hopelessness I’ve carried for years.

After the birth of my first child, I found myself in an even darker place.

Postpartum depression consumed nearly five years of my life.

Today, I know I should have sought medical help. But at the time, mental health was still wrapped in stigma, and I convinced myself I had to fight it alone.

Over the years, I found myself in an endless loop where every day felt like surviving instead of living, and anxiety became my constant companion.

Most recently, I’ve confronted familiar shadows from the past when thoughts I believed I’d long ago buried returned, and the voices came back when I least expected them to.

If you’ve ever experienced depression, you know the voices I’m talking about.

The ones that whisper you’re not enough.

That you’re a burden.

That tomorrow won’t be any different.

The ones that become so loud you can’t tell where the lies end and your own truth begins.

I know those voices.

I’ve heard them.

They can sound so convincing that you begin to mistake their false narrative for your truth.

That’s why Resurrection exists.

I wasn’t simply creating fiction.

I was bleeding onto the page.

I was facing my darkness.

I was refusing to let my struggles define my identity any longer.

It was healing through having an honest conversation with the only source I thought would listen.

My characters.

I was escaping from my demons and finding strength in the courage it took for Rose and Justin to find hope, happiness, and eventually love themselves again.

Resurrection is a story about grief, healing, and finding the courage to believe in tomorrow when every part of you wants to give up today.

Writing it was deeply personal.

If this book helps even one person feel less alone…

If it convinces one person to stay…

If it reminds one person that tomorrow is worth fighting for…

Then everything I poured into these pages will have been worth it.

Along my journey, I found strength through my faith and the decision to seek medical and professional help when needed. From time to time, I’ve taken medication, and it helped alleviate some of my symptoms. Throughout my life, there have been seasons when I’ve needed it and seasons when I haven’t.

I know everyone’s journey toward healing looks different, and I deeply respect that. Whether healing comes through faith, therapy, medication, loved ones, or a combination of many things, what matters most is that no one faces the darkness alone.

Through The Next Chapter, I’m donating $1 from each qualifying full-price ebook or paperback sale of Resurrection, up to a total of $3,000. Discounted and promotional purchases are excluded, and audiobook sales do not qualify.

Oftentimes, those who have suffered, and continue to fight a silent battle, need a reminder to keep turning the page. My wish is that Resurrection can fund hope and reach anyone struggling with the fear of facing their next chapter.

No matter how impossible today feels…

Your story matters. Tomorrow needs you. Your next chapter is still waiting to be written.
You do not have to carry this alone

If you need someone today

If you’re struggling with depression, anxiety, grief, or thoughts of suicide, please know you don’t have to carry that weight alone.

Reach out to someone you trust. A friend, family member, therapist, healthcare provider, faith leader, or another person who can walk beside you. Asking for help isn’t weakness. It’s the bravest step you will ever take.

If you’re in the United States and need immediate emotional support, call or text 988 to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Compassionate, trained counselors are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

If you’re looking for mental health support or treatment resources, contact SAMHSA’s National Helpline at 1-800-662-HELP (4357) for free, confidential guidance and referrals.

If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department.

No matter what the darkness is telling you today… You matter. You are loved. You are not alone. And tomorrow still needs you.
